Rivers are the precious blessings of nature that, by transferring fresh water to plants and animals, expand life along their course. There are many rivers in Iran, the longest and most watery of which are located in the Zagros Mountains in western and southern Iran. One of these important rivers is Karun, which originates from a large catchment area in the central Zagros.

A significant part of this river flows through “Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari” province and becomes watery and roaring due to the joining of springs and tributaries.

Due to the importance of Karun and the need to control and store its floods, several dams have been built along the river, each of which stores part of the water. The first dam on the Karun River, which was built on the border of “Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari” and Khuzestan provinces, is known as Karun 4 Dam.

Before entering Khuzestan province, Karun river is known as Bazoft. Shortly before the Karun 4 dam, the Khersan river crosses the Bazoft river to form the massive Karun river.

The flooding of Karun 4 dam caused a large lake to be created behind it, which today has become one of the tourist spots in Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari province. This beautiful lake, which is located among the wooded mountains of the Zagros, attracts many enthusiasts every year for recreational activities and relaxation.

Karun 4 Dam Lake is located 175 km south of Shahrekord on the Izeh route. It is possible to visit the lake from the side of this road and you can enjoy its beauties. Of course, a recreational camp has also been built in a suitable place.

In addition to all the mentioned benefits of Karun Dam Lake, the construction of fish breeding complexes in this lake has become one of the other important attractions.
