in the meantime, a river chooses a different path and moves in the opposite direction to the rest of the Zagros rivers towards the center of Iran and the dry and desert lands. This unexpected move, of course, has many blessings for human beings and has led to the emergence of many cities and villages in the semi-arid part of Iran, one of the most important of which is Isfahan.
Zayandeh-rud river originates from the northern mountains of “Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari” province and from a large catchment area around Koohrang. Some of these catchments are like natural Dimeh springs and some are artificially built to help fill the Zayandeh-rud.
Zayandeh-rud, which is known as Koohrang River at the beginning of its journey, continues its way to Isfahan city after a long journey in “Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari” and Isfahan provinces. During this trip, it irrigates many gardens and lands, and after entering the city of Isfahan, it creates a unique freshness in it.
Zayandeh-rud continues its journey after Isfahan and brings life with it by passing through desert villages and cities.
The river disappears into a vast plain at the end of its mysterious journey. Of course, the death of this river is accompanied by the birth of an important wetland in the center of this, which is home to various species of birds and plants. This river creates a large and important Gavkhoni wetland near Varzaneh, which is an important habitat in Isfahan province.
