Kangelo Castle

This castle is considered the only remaining and external rampart that has preserved its appearance and appearance and two walls are connected to it from the back. The interesting thing is that the appearance of this rampart is made diagonal and sloping by coordinating with the slope of the land below it, that is, the hill on which this castle is located, and when you look at it from the front, the image that comes to your mind is only the image of an eagle with its wings spread to the sides. This is why this castle is also called the Eagle of Mazandaran.

There are many different hypotheses about the construction of this castle. Some consider this castle to be a remnant of the Sassanid era, while others consider it to belong to the early post-Islamic era. Of course, some also think that this castle was simply a defensive fortress or a fire temple. Gravel, lime, mortar, and rubble were used in the construction of this building and castle. Originally, this castle was a three-story building, but over time, its floors have been completely destroyed and destroyed. Now, you can only see parts of the first floor.

Travel guide to Kangelo Castle

You can use a car to reach Kangloo Castle. If your place of residence is not in the northeast of Iran, first of all you should reach the Firuzkuh-Sari road and then go to Shorab and Veresk and pass through these areas. After you reach the Arfa Deh exit and before Do Ab, there is a three-way junction in front of you, which is a dangerous mountain junction and you should turn right at this junction. This road is a side road, continue it until it takes you to the Chashem-Kangloo junction. After that, choose the left road and continue your path.

When you reach Kangloo village, you will face a 400-meter steep path and a 100-meter steeper path. You must walk this path. We recommend that you bring mountaineering equipment and gear.

Of course, if you live in the northeast, you should take this route in reverse and after reaching Ghaemshahr, take the Firuzkoh road to reach Kangloo Castle. Use the bus to reach Pol Sefid or Veresk. Then take taxis to nearby villages and ask locals to take you to the castle. It goes without saying that you can also travel part of the route by plane and travel the first part of your route by buying a plane ticket to Sari. Then head south by taxi or bus.

Currently, the Hyrcanian forests are the habitat of 296 species of birds and 98 species of mammals. There are also 150 native tree and shrub plants found there. The best time to visit this castle is from late April to early December. The trees are in full fall color, making it especially beautiful. Access is a bit difficult in winter, and you will need equipment.
