There is a large land in the center of Iran that is inaccessible to our ancestors due to various phenomena such as vast sands or lands that become swampy due to rain, and many attempts to cross it have probably failed. Perhaps for this reason, they used the word “sand jinn” for it, which indicates the existence of unusual phenomena in this land that prevent humans from passing through it.
Rig-e Jen is a large region between the provinces of Isfahan and Semnan, which includes very high and wide sand dunes and dry lands. Due to its vastness and lack of a stable water source, this area has always been out of reach of caravans and people around this area, and there is no evidence of caravans passing through this area. The area was finally opened by adventurers in the late 20th century, and it became clear that there were no abnormalities in the desert other than natural factors that make it difficult to travel to the area.
Large parts of this area can not be visited except for off-road groups. But in the southern parts of the desert, which is known as the tail of the sand, there are access roads for enthusiasts and they can use its beauties. To visit this desert, there are different routes between Anarak and Cupanan in Isfahan province, which, of course, due to the difficulty of access to it, is accompanied by experienced and knowledgeable people.
Contrary to popular belief, there is a rich flora and fauna among the sand dunes of the desert. In many places, desert shrubs grow and along with them, significant traces of animal life can be seen. The best time to visit Rig-e Jen and visit the desert in general is autumn and winter when the temperature is lower. Because in spring and summer, in addition to the oppressive heat, dangerous animals such as snakes and scorpions are active and can pose dangers.
The night sky of the desert is the paradise of astronomers, and the pristine nature of Rig-e Jen compared to other deserts of Iran invites photographers, astronomers and researchers. Due to the remoteness of this desert from the big cities and the light created by these cities, beautiful images of the night sky can be recorded inside the Rig-e Jen desert.
