Near the city of Kalibar, there is one of the most important sights of East Azerbaijan province in all aspects, including ancient, cultural and natural. This is a spectacular effect; “Babak Khorramdin Castle” is known as Babak Castle.
Babak Castle is a strong and huge fortress that was built on the top of a mountain and is reminiscent of the struggles of the Azeri heroes of Iran. Babak Khorramdin was the main leader of the Iranian fighters who revolted against the Abbasid caliphate after the death of Abu Muslim. During the Abbasid caliphate, Azerbaijan was the center of a long and dangerous revolt against the caliphate, led by Babak Khorramdin, which affected northwestern Iran and lasted for more than 20 years.
This fort is in a position that was difficult to enter, because such a position was necessary to protect it from enemy attacks. Even now, it is difficult to enter this castle and it requires walking, some parts of which are impassable.
Babak Castle has been damaged over time, but its splendor can still be seen well. In addition to the charm of the castle, seeing the distant scenery from the top of this hill is another attraction that has caused many enthusiasts to visit it. The space that can be visited from the castle is the roofless parts and it is not possible to visit from inside the remaining rooms.
Part of the access road to Babak Castle can be reached by car, but another part takes about an hour on foot. This route passes through narrow straits and finally to reach the castle you have to climb a large number of stairs.
There are no amenities along the way and next to the castle, and it is necessary to bring all the necessary necessities.
