It is located in the north of Yazd province and near the border of Isfahan province, one of the spectacular deserts of Iran. This desert is almost oval in shape, which is about 50 km long and 10 km wide. There are several routes to reach this desert, the most famous of which are from the city of Saghand and the village of Moghestan. For this reason, this desert is known as the Rig-e Zarin (Golden Sand) or the Moghestan Desert.
Rig-e Zarin, like other deserts, is composed of many long and short sands and shows beautiful landscapes. Here, too, it has special flora and fauna. Turmeric and thorn bushes and animals such as foxes and rabbits are only a small part of this rich wildlife.
The Rig-e Zarin has fewer visitors than many other well-known deserts such as the Marnjab and Mesr, and therefore its tranquility and silence is remarkable, especially during the night. Of course, this factor can create dangers for tourists. Because in most parts of the desert there are no signs for guidance, the chances of getting lost are high.
It is possible to visit the Rig-e Zarin of Moghestan village through a road with an approximate length of 5 km. This road is suitable for most vehicles and in favorable weather it can be crossed and reach the beginning of the desert.
The best season to visit this desert and all deserts in general is autumn and winter. Because during spring and summer, the temperature of most deserts is high and beyond human tolerance. In addition, the presence of dangerous insects and animals during the hot seasons can pose a danger to visitors.
