Waterfalls are among the beautiful phenomena of nature that attract many enthusiasts by creating various landscapes. There are many waterfalls in Iran, some of which are very high. Most of Iran’s waterfalls are found in the mountainous regions of northern and western Iran, among the Alborz and Zagros mountain ranges. Because these areas with significant snow and rain, as well as many mountains and valleys, have all the conditions to create a waterfall.

Kermanshah province and the city of Sarpol-e Zahab is one of the places that has abundant water and has one of the tallest waterfalls in Iran called Piran waterfall in its list of sights. In addition to Piran waterfall, there is another beautiful and at the same time unknown waterfall, which is different from other waterfalls in the region due to its location in a deep valley. The waterfall is surrounded on all sides by high walls and can only be approached from a narrow path. This waterfall is known in the local language as “Saraw Maraw”.

The waterfall is located about 15 km east of Sarpol-e Zahab and to visit it, you have to walk a 2 km route through a beautiful valley. Early spring is the best time to visit this valley and its waterfall. Along the valley there is a small river that actually originates from the waterfall and oak trees cover the space inside the valley. For this reason, it is one of the ideal routes for nature tourism.

Saraw Maraw Falls is a seasonal waterfall and usually dries up in early summer. That is why it is necessary to choose the right time to visit the waterfall. However, even after the waterfall dries, the narrow valleys with high walls still make this route attractive for enthusiasts.

There are no amenities along the trail and near the waterfall. For this reason, it is necessary to have essentials for a few hours of walking. The trail is not difficult and ordinary people with moderate physical fitness can walk it.
